Many of the memos are to Quie from staff assistant Mitch Pearlstein, informing Quie of the time, date, and expected attendance of the speech appearance, as well as sometimes suggesting topics and points of view for Quie's remarks. Many of the speeches seem to have been extemporized, so some files do not contain a speech text. Some memos indicate that Quie was not expected to speak but only to participate in a ceremony such as an award presentation.
